Wild wolf
For millennia wolves have been native to Europe, until during the Middle Ages they have been demonised and killed systematically. Since 1850 in Germany there has been virtually no wolves. Almost 150 years passed, until in the year 2000 the first couple of wolves came back to Germany from Poland and had their pups here. They were not deliberately reintroduced, but returned naturally. It is great news that the population is growing since then. Currently there are about 12 wolf packs, numbering about 150 animals, mainly in eastern Germany.

Here you can read more.

However, many other species in Germany are declining, such as many birds, reptiles and mammals. Here you can support the organizations that protect their habitat.
